Tonometry and Ophthalmic Exams

We have the ability to test your dog or cat’s eyes for excess pressure easily and safely. This test allows us to diagnose glaucoma and eye infections that could cause blindness if not detected and treated early.

This is part of a complete ophthalmic exam we may do when an animal has an eye disease. Other tests include:

  • Schirmer’s tear test measuring the production of tears
  • Fluoroscein stain looking for scrapes on the cornea and patency of the tear ducts
  • Ophthalmic exam of the eye including the lens and retina
  • Close examination of the eyelids looking for extra lashes or masses

Further tests may be required such as blood work or cytology.
