A caesarian section is where the puppies are delivered by abdominal surgery. It can be a planned surgery if the breeding dates are known and the female is known to have whelping problems. More often it is performed as an emergency if the mother is having trouble delivering her puppies. A pup may be too large, coming the wrong way, or the mother’s uterus has tired and is no longer contracting.
