Our pets can get cancer, just like we can. A diagnosis of cancer does not necessarily mean the end of your friend’s life. When a diagnosis of cancer is made, we will discuss with you the prognosis, and the treatment options. Each treatment is different depending on the type of cancer and the animal itself. Often cancer can be removed surgically and cure your pet. However, if it cannot, we have done and do offer chemotherapy, if that cancer is treated that way. Because our goal in cancer treatment is not 20 or 30 more years of life, as in people, but just several more years, we do not need to use as aggressive a level of the drugs meaning less side effects. Also our pets tend not to get as ill as a human might.
Some cancers are better treated with radiation therapy. If that is needed, we can refer you to a treatment facility for this.
