Referrals to Heubner-Ridder Veterinary Hospital
We accept referrals from surrounding clinics. These referrals may be for:
- Dentistry, especially for periodontal surgery and root canal therapy
- Some soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, such as cruciate ligament repair
- Acupuncture
- Cancer therapy
- Certain diagnostic tests such as EKG, and ultrasound
- Laser surgery
- Endoscopy
If you would like your pet referred to us, talk to your regular veterinarian. When we do a referral for other clinics, we request that you sign a form stating that you will not ask us to be your regular veterinarian within a specified time. This prevents any feeling of ill will starting between local clinics.
Laboratory Service Referrals
We do many laboratory tests in house. However, there are many tests that we cannot do. We send these out to a veterinary laboratory. We usually receive results in 2-3 days unless it is a very specialized test.
Veterinary Specialist Referrals
The field of veterinary medicine is becoming more and more specialized just as it’s human counter part. We already specialize in that we concentrate on only companion animals and do not do livestock. Also, each veterinarian in the practice has become more knowledgeable in the fields in which they are more interested. However, it is hard to be an expert in all things. If a case is beyond our expertise, we often consult with a specialist in that area—either directly or over the web. Veterinary Specialists have undergone more intensive training in their field and then write an exam to become board certified. Sometimes we will refer you directly to a specialist in that area. We use the services of:
- A Surgeon in London
- An Ophthalmologist in London
- A Neurologist in Toronto area or at the University of Guelph
- A Cardiologist in Toronto area or at the University of Guelph
